2007 was a year of change for the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). We saw the departure of Fr Lluís Magriñà SJ as International Director and we welcomed Fr Peter Balleis SJ.

While accompanying our refugee brothers and sisters, we felt the joy of handing over 30 schools built by JRS Angola to returnees, and the sorrow of hearing the tragic news of the killing of Fr Packiaranjith SJ, JRS coordinator in northern Sri Lanka. His death demonstrates that accompanying displaced persons and sharing the dangers they face, means putting one’s life at risk.
