Education gives hope and offers children affected by displacement and violence the chance to rebuild their lives. In Kenya, thousands of young refugees have found shelter after being forced to flee their home countries in search of safety and stability.

Despite the immense challenges of displacement and limited resources, young students at Kakuma refugee camp are leading change and working to build the future they hope for.

Under the guidance of their teacher, they launched a small environmental club that transformed a dry, dusty space into a lush green oasis — “a space that breathes hope,” as their teacher describes it.

The transformation at Blue State Secondary School has not only reshaped the landscape but has also inspired academic progress. “We make sure we have a space conducive for learning, and improve our environment so that society can see and copy us,” says Mayol Madak Mayol, student at Blue State Secondary School.

In the following video, students members of the Green Youth Club at Kakuma Refugee Camp share their testimonies.
