Global: A new logo for JRS

23 May 2019

Rome – The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is happy to announce the release of our new logo today as we seek to respond in even more effective ways to the unprecedented scale of the global refugee situation. Our commitment to the JRS mission to accompany, serve, and advocate the cause of refugees compels us to adapt and change as circumstances demand. That commitment includes the way we communicate our work in a digital age, and how we represent ourselves visually in a world that consumes information in ways unimaginable just a decade ago, let alone 23 years ago when our former logo was first introduced.

While we are updating our look, we still want to highlight the importance of having figures in the logo that represent the people we serve: refugees on a journey, moving forward in hope and in search of protection. The global reality of forcibly displaced people is why JRS is here at all. The simple lines of the human figures and the arc of protection over them mean that the logo can be easily remembered and reproduced, even hand-drawn, by almost anyone who sees it.

To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.
Blessed John Henry Newman

Nearly 40 years since JRS was first founded, we remain convinced that the value of accompaniment, journeying with the dispossessed as they seek to rebuild their lives, is at the heart of who we are as an organisation. Our new logo tells the world that we walk with refugees in search of a just future through reconciliation, and that we render a service that not only brings healing in the present, but also creates resources and opportunities for human and spiritual formation towards a better tomorrow.
