Our work in Canada

Every year, thousands of refugees are resettled to Canada. Canada welcomes refugees and asylum seekers through a government-sponsored programme and through private sponsorships.

JRS Canada’s commitment to the community materialises through four key programmes:

  • Sponsorship programme: JRS Canada works with local agencies and international organisations to facilitate the integration of displaced individuals by providing holistic support.
  • Pastoral support: JRS Canada supports the integration and well-being of refugees by offering pastoral accompaniment.
  • Advocacy programme: Ensuring the rights of forcibly displaced individuals are respected is one of JRS Canada’s main areas of work.
  • Raising awareness: JRS Canada encourages mutual understanding and compassion for refugees. A Journey in Exile is the simulation exercise at the heart of JRS Canada’s awareness efforts. With both online and in-person versions, this simulation reaches hundreds of individuals each year in Canada and the United States.
