JRS signed the joint statement on the worsening humanitarian crisis in eastern DRC

05 March 2025

JRS co-signed the statement presented by Caritas Internationalis at the 58th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council on the worsening humanitarian crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Violence and obstacles to accessing humanitarian aid are leaving affected people in an increasingly precarious situation.

Widespread cuts to international aid have led to a chronic shortage of resources, severely limiting access to food, healthcare, and shelter. Sexual violence is on the rise, while medical facilities lack the resources to provide emergency support to survivors. Children are often recruited into armed groups and at risk of exploitation.

Despite these challenges, local actors, including churches, continue to provide essential assistance to affected communities and work towards restoring peace.

If no action is taken, the crisis risks spreading across the entire region.
